Scholarships Opportunity - UNSW Cricket Club Award (UGCE1152)

This Scholarship opportunity will be of particular interest to current UNSW students, or those wishing to transfer / start at UNSW next semester.

Below  is a general outline of the scholarship. Note that contribution to the UNSWCC both on-field and off-field is a mandatory part of this scholarship (i.e. that is holding a role at the club be that at committee, sub-committee, or delegate level)

 

Outline:
- The UNSW Cricket Club Award assists UNSW students who are currently playing or intending to play with the UNSW Cricket Club.


Eligibility:
- Applicants must be undertaking coursework studies at UNSW (undergraduate or postgraduate).
- Applicants must also contribute to the UNSW Cricket Club both on and off the field.

Selection:
Applicants will be assessed on the basis of:
- Prior Cricket Performance in a recognised competition over the past 3 years, particular recognition will be given to state representation and senior grade cricket representation
- Commitment to the UNSW Cricket Club both on and off the field

 

If you are a high-potential cricketer who wants to play for UNSWCC, you may be eligible for a scholarship from the university or directly from the club.

UNIVERSITY SPORTS SCHOLARSHIPS

The University offers several scholarships to potential First Class or First Grade cricketers who are current or enrolling students at UNSW:

Ben Lexcen Scholarships
(including the Lawson-Slater Cricket Scholarship)

These are the premier sporting scholarships at UNSW and are awarded to elite student-athletes from multiple sports. They currently provide:

  • A $10,000 stipend or $5000 if enrolled part time

  • UNSW Fitness and Aquatic Centre complimentary membership

  • UniSport Australia National Championship  package cost waived (travel costs not included)

  • 'Elite Athlete Program ' recognition, allowing flexibility to structure your study around your sporting commitments

  • Grant to offset travel costs to recognised international sporting events

  • Access to student support and development programs

  • Elite Athlete Program merchandise

Elite Athlete Program Scholarships
These scholarships supplement the Lexcen program and are also awarded to elite student-athletes from multiple sports. They provide:

  •  a $5000 stipend

  • UNSW Fitness and Aquatic Centre membership

  • UniSport Australia National Championships package cost waived (travel costs not included)

  • 'Elite Athlete Program recognition and access to flexible study support

  • Grant to offset travel costs to recognised international sporting events

Applications should be submitted via the generic Sports Scholarship application on the UNSW Scholarships website  www.scholarships.unsw.edu.au

 

High Performance Club scholarships
These scholarships supplement the Lexcen and Elite Athlete Scholarships  and are solely for athletes competing for UNSW High Performance Clubs of which UNSWCC is a member of

  • UNSW Fitness and Aquatic Centre  membership

  • UniSport National Championships package cost waived (travel and entry fee not included)

  • Club to waive membership fees

CLUB SCHOLARSHIPS

From time to time, UNSW Cricket Club offers additional scholarships to outstanding young players and people, including:

The Peter Dodd Scholarship:
A discretionary award (in recent years $3,000) to a country player joining the club and studying at the university.

Scholarship candidates must be potential First Grade cricketers with strong personal qualities and a record of achievement on and off the field. Applications must be made directly to the club.

Peter grew up on the North Coast of NSW and is a former 1st Grade wicketkeeper for the club.

 

The UNSWCC Country Scholarships:
Additional discretionary scholarships (in recent years $2,500) designed to assist young country cricketers with the transition to cricket (and life) in Sydney.

Again, scholarship candidates must be potential First Grade cricketers with strong personal qualities and a record of achievement on and off the field, and applications must be made directly to the club.

 

UNSW ELITE ATHLETES & PERFORMERS PROGRAM

Under the UNSW Elite Athletes, Performers and Leaders Program, students can be considered for EAPL adjustment factors ( bonus points )for undergraduate study at UNSW (Adjustment Factors  are not available for admission to the BMedMD, Combined Law or Optometry or any Co-op degrees). The EAPL Program awards up to five adjustment factors to high school leavers who have excelled in areas of sport, academia, leadership, and/or music at an elite level.

The Elite Athlete Support  Program also provides eligible students in all study programs the necessary support to successfully integrate their academic life with their sporting pursuits through enrolment flexibility, cross-institutional study options and leave of absence for travel commitments.
